Google Docs and Slides
The fxEditor add-on for Google Docs and Google Slides adds Insert equation… to the Extensions menu. It opens the equation editor in a sidebar; press Insert and the equation is placed in your document or slide as an image. Here is the sidebar beside a stand-in document:
Preview. The add-on is not yet listed on the Google Workspace Marketplace.
Deploy your own copy from the add-on folder in the download in
Customise and download, as described below, or
contact us.
Why an image
Docs and Slides have no way for an add-on to insert MathML or live LaTeX: an image is the only form of equation both apps can hold. It is drawn by fxTeX Server as a PNG at the moment you insert it, so the document does not depend on our service afterwards.
Deploying it for your organisation
The add-on is an Apps Script project. To deploy your own copy — for example, as an
add-on private to your Google Workspace domain — with Google's clasp tool:
npm install -g @google/clasp
clasp login
cd add-on # from the download below
clasp create --type docs --title "CodeCogs Equation Editor" --rootDir src
clasp push
Then set its Script properties (Project Settings → Script Properties in the Apps Script editor):
| EQNEDITOR_LICENCE | Your fxEditor licence key. Required. |
| EQNEDITOR_DESIGN | The editor's look, as JSON: dialog width, height and scale, toolbar panels and size, colour, equation and markup sizes, undo/redo. Build one in Customise and download — design.json in the download. |
| EQNEDITOR_SERVER | Host the equation editor is loaded from: fxtex.codecogs.com. |
| EQNEDITOR_RENDER_URL | The fxTeX Server that draws the images: https://fxtex.codecogs.com, or your own. |
Customise and download
Make the equation editor your own: choose what it shows, drag panels from
More panels into up to three toolbar rows, and pick a colour and sizes. The preview is
the real Google Docs and Slides page, rebuilt as you go. Then add your licence key and download it: an
example.html with a page of equations to edit, loading everything it needs from
fxplugins.codecogs.com.

Your design
The option that gives Google Docs and Slides this design — it is already in the download. Leave it out and the editor uses the standard design.
Your key is in the licence manager on fxEditor — or get one. Without a key, the download still works: equations show why they cannot render until you add one.
Complete example
The whole of the page running above: a simple, complete HTML page that loads Google Docs and Slides and the
plugin. Every file comes from fxplugins.codecogs.com, so it works as it is —
put in your own licence key. (Keys are shortened here.)
